Poha was a stable
food in our breakfast when I was with my mom. She used to make it different
each time, everything taste great. I learned few recipes from my mother and now
I am making it at my home. This one is the basic upma recipe which can be made
in less than 15 mins.

It is nothing but a
simple seasoned poha, this is so light on the tummy but has lots of fiber in
it. I hope you will like it.

Ingredients:

Aval / poha – 2 cups
Onion – 1 finely
chopped
Green Chilli – 2
finely chopped
Curry leaves – 1
spring finely chopped
Mustard Seeds /
Kaduku – 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu
paruppu – 1 tblspn
Coconut – 1/2 cup
grated
Oil – 1 tblspn
Sal to taste
Method:
Take poha and
sprinkle some water over it and mix well with your hands. Add some salt to it
and mix well. Set this aside till use.
Now heat oil in a
kadai. Add in mustard and urad dal and let it sizzle.
Add in onions, green
chilli and curry leaves and mix well.
Add some salt and
cook for a couple of mins.
Now add in the
prepared poha mixture and toss well in the oil so that everything gets heated
up.
Finally sprinkle
grated coconut and mix well.
Serve hot.
Pictorial:

I had to look most of these ingredients up as I have never heard of them! I cannot imagine eating all that for breakfast. I have a banana which is quick and easy with a cup of herbal tea!

Can we use white poha for preparing this upma? Should we prepare in the same way by sprinkling water and salt to it?
