About Milk Barfi ( Milk powder barfi)

Milk barfi also known as milk powder barfi, doodh ki mittai or milk burfi is made with ghee, milk powder, powdered sugar and milk. The ingredients are cooked together to create a solid milk mass like texture which is then pressed in a tray to set. Enjoy my kaju katli and Badam katli.

It is important to use powdered sugar for this recipe. I always powder my sugar when adding in this recipe to make the barfi mix thick. I used unsweetened dry milk which adds texture without making it too sweet. If you want chocolate flavoured milk barfi, check my chocolate milk powder barfi.

Traditionally it is made with whole milk which is reduced until it is thick like this milk barfi. It takes hours of mixing and cooking. But this time I used milk powder to make my life easier and it didn’t disappoint. The whole cooking process took me less than 10 minutes to make.

    Milk Powder Barfi Ingredients

ingredients for Milk Powder Burfi Recipe(Milk Barfi)

Milk powder - use dry milk powder also known as unsweetened milk powder. I use everyday brand and I like the taste of it.

Sugar - it is important to powder the sugar, because granulated sugar takes more time to cook and achieve the consistency. You can even use confectioners sugar.

Milk - whole milk is preferred in this recipe and you don’t need to use too much milk as well.

Ghee - use pure desi ghee for flavour.

Optional - I flavoured my bargi with saffron strands and nuts. You can add crushed cardamom as well.

It will affect the texture and taste since milk has fat in them. For best taste it is better to use milk.
