Paruppu podi is a staple recipe in our household. This can be served with idli, dosa or mixed with rice.

    Paruppu Podi Recipe

I wanted to share this podi here for a long time. Even though this is a staple in our house, i somehow missed to share it here. This is a must have powder if you have kids or a toddler at home. This is great when mixed with rice along with ghee, my little one loves it.

In India, mung beans are known as Moong Dal. Mung beans are also referred to as green gramme or moong. Whole lentils and split lentils are both used in Indian cooking. The husks of mung beans are green when whole, and the beans are yellow when the husks are removed.

    What is Paruppu Podi?

Split mung beans (moong dal) are whole green mung beans with theskin or hull removed to reveal the yellow flesh inside. The beans are then cut in half to cook faster. This lentil is roasted with spices and powdered. This powder can be served with rice and some ghee mixed together.

This can be served over some rice and a drizzle of ghee. You can have it with idli or dosa too.

What are the benefits of moong dal?

Mung beans are high in nutrients and antioxidants, which may be beneficial to ones health. They may, in fact, protect against heat stroke, improve digestive health, promote weight loss, and lower bad LDL cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels.

Is moong dal good for toddlers?

Moong dal is extremely healthy for all children and thus remains the
top choice for most parents. Furthermore, it is simple to prepare and
contains a high percentage of the nutrition required for a baby.

Ingredients for Moong Dal Powder :

Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu :

While moong dal melts away in the pot, mung beans retain their shape even when cooked to softness, making them ideal for saucy curries with vegetables or other larger legumes. They also have a more vegetal and beany flavour than buttery moong dal.
