This is my latest favourite recipe. I love pongal a lot. I make it quite often too. Since hubby and me don't eat rice these days, I used kuthiraivalli for making this and it was like super hit. I never missed rice in this. It tasted really yummy.
I served this with my all time favourite pumpkin sambar. It was so delicious. You can have it with coconut chutney or tomato chutney as well.

Step by Step Pictures
1)Take all your ingredients

2)I am using kuthiraivalli. you can use any millet of choice.

3)Wash dal and millet really well. Soak for 30 minutes.

4)Heat ghee in a pressure cooker.

5)Add in dal, roast till golden.

6)Add in millet

7)Add water.

8)season with salt.

9)Pressure cook fo 3 whistle. Simmer for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let them steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and mix well.

10)Heat ghee in a pan. Add in all the ingredients for tempering. Mix well.

11)turn off heat, Add the cooked dal millet and mix well. Serve hot.

Equipment
- Pressure cooker
Ingredients
- 1 cup Kuthiraivali / Barnyard Millet
- ½ cup Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu
- 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste
- 1 teaspoon Ghee
- 3 cup Water
For Tempering
- 3 tablespoon Ghee
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- 1 teaspoon Whole Black pepper
- 2 no Green Chillies chopped finely
- 1 tablespoon Ginger peeled and minced
- ¼ teaspoon Asafoetida
- 10 no Cashews optional
- 2 sprig Curry leaves
Instructions
- Wash dal and millet really well. Drain it and set aside.
- Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add in dal, roast till golden. Add in millet along with water and salt. Pressure cook fo 3 whistle. Simmer for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let them steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and mix well.
- Heat ghee in a pan. Add in all the ingredients for tempering. Mix well.
- Add the cooked dal millet and mix well.
- Serve with sambar or chutney.
