I started cooking a lot from this book and all the dishes turned out amazingly.This recipe is from this book, and it calls for gujarati fresh masala which i posted in my previous post. You can check it here..
Cooking Time : 30 – 40 mins
Serves – 5 to 6
Source : Gujarati kitchen
Chicken – 1 kg
Onions – 2 large sliced thinly
Tomatoes – 3 large chopped finely
Potatoes – 2 large peeled and cubed
Gujarati Fresh Masala – 4 tblspn (Click here for recipe)
Salt to taste
Oil – 1/4 cup
Cinnamon / Pattai – 1 stick
Bay Leaf / Brinji Ilai- 2
Cardamom / Yelakai – 6 crushed
Cloves / Krambu – 5
Star Anise – 1
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder / Manjal podi – 1 tsp
Coriander powder / Thania – 1 tblspn
Garam Masala powder – 2 tblspn
Cumin Powder – 2 tsp
Heat oil in a pressure cooker, Add in the whole spices and saute for a min.
Now add in the onions and cook for 3 to 4 mins untill they turn golden.
Add in the fresh masala, salt, spice powders and give a stir for a min.
Add in tomatoes and saute for a couple of mins.
Add in chicken and toss well with the masala.
Add in potatoes and mix well.
Pour a cup of water.
Cover the pressure cooker and let it cook for 3 whistle. Lower the flame and let it cook for 10 more mins.Switch off the flame and let the steam escape all by itself.
Open the pressure cooker. Squeeze in some lemon juice and add lots of coriander leaves.
Serve with some roti, rice or puri.

|Cube your potatoes|
|Heat oil in a pressure cooker|
|add in whole spices|
|Add in sliced onions|
|Saute till golden|
|add in the fresh masala|
|along with some spice powders|
|sprinkle in some salt|
|Cook the masala|
|add in the chopped tomatoes|
|give a good mix|
|now add the cleaned chicken|
|mix them well|
|add the cubed potatoes|
|pour some water|
|and mix well with the masala|
|squeeze some lemon juice|
|add in lots of coriander leaves|
