Rice & Dal Khichdi for Babies / Moong Dal Khichdi for Babies - Rice Recipes for Babies & Toddlers

FOR MORE BABY FOOD RECIPES, CLICK HERE.

I have been waiting to feed rice for maha for months, because we feed the first rice infront of god and take it as a function called as "Anna Prashan". Last Month we took that function, and from that day i am giving her lots of rice foods. As you all know rice is rich in carbohydrates and it gives the energy which your baby needs and helps in healthy weight gaining. Adding dal into rice makes it more wholesome and provides the protein which your baby needs.

Daily i never miss to feed this khichdi to maha, what i do is make many variations to it. Will share all my variations in the coming post. And also i never miss to add homemade ghee to the khichdi.  Will share that recipe too soon.

Things to remember before making this

1)Cook rice and dal properly till it is almost mashed up, that helps in easy digestion in babies.

2)Always wash rice and dal very well to remove all the starch and acky stuff from it.

3)Add garlic, cumin and asafoetida helps in digestion in babies.

4)This khichdi is so filling and nutritious meal for your babies.

5)You can start feeding this for babies above 6 months.

6)Always feed this meal for lunch, not for dinner.

7)The consistency of this is up to you. You can mash them with a potato masher, or put them in a blender and make into a fine puree. I make it into a fine puree.

8)Adding ghee enhances the flavour and make it more nutritious for you baby and helps in weight gaining in babies.

9)Make sure the ghee which you use is pure ones. I make my own ghee.

10)Rice wont cause constipation, allergies in babies.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

How to make Rice & Dal Khichdi:

Ingredients:

Rice - 3 tblspn
Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu - 3 tblspn
Garlic - 2 fat cloves
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - a pinch
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Homemade Ghee - 1 tblspn
Water - 1 1/2 cup

Method:

Take rice and dal in a bowl and wash it well. Now drain it and add into pressure cooker.

Add in garlic, cumin seeds, asafoetida, salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida.

Add in water and cover the cooker. Pressure cook this for 5 whistle and simmer it for 5 mins. Switch off the flame and let the steam escape all by itself.

Open the cooker and mash the rice with a potato masher or if you want it to be smooth, you can take that in a blender and puree them.

Pour this into bowl. Drizzle in homemade ghee and mix well.

Feed your baby warm.

Infants under 6 months should not be given any solid or semi solid food. They should be exclusively breastfed or formula fed. Also, please consult a paediatrician in case of health related issues with the baby.
