Semiya Biryani Recipe - Vermicelli Biryani Recipe

I love my viewers, someday's i too get struck and break my head about what to do for next day breakfast. I was breaking my head oneday, suddenly i received a mail from one of my viewer who, send me this recipe. I was happy,i took that recipe and modified it slightly to my taste and the next day i tried it and it turned out yummy.        

This biryani is so easy to make and is great for lunch box. It taste really delicious and so easy to make as well. It hardly takes 10 to 15 mins to put together..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 25 to 30 mins
Serves : 4


Vermicelli / Semiya - 2 cup (roasted)
Oil - 3 tblspn
Bay Leaf - 1
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
Cinnamon / Pattai - 1 small stick
Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu - 1 tsp
Onion - 1 medium size sliced thinly
Kal Paasi - 1
Mace - 1
Onion - 1 large sliced thinly
Green Chillies - 2 slit
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblspn
Tomato - 1 sliced thinly
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi - 1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
Carrot - 1 small chopped into small cubes
Beans - 6 chopped finely
Peas - 1/2 cup
Coriander Leaves - 1/4 cup finely chopped
Mint Leaves - 1/4 cup chopped finely
Coconut Milk - 2 cup
Water - 1 cup
Salt to taste


Take oil in a pan, add in add whole spices. Saute it for 30 sec.

Add in onions, green chillies and saute till golden.

Add in ginger garlic paste and salt. Saute for a min.

Add tomatoes and cook till mushy.

Add in all spice powders and saute for 10 sec or so.

Add in all the veggies and saute for 5 mins or so till the raw smell leaves away.

Add in semiya and toss well in the masala. Add in coriander leaves and mint leaves and mix well.

Add in water, coconut milk and salt. Bring it to boil. Simmer and cover the pan and cook it for 10 mins on low heat. Turn off the heat and fluff it lightly.. Now cover it and let it sit for 10 mins.. 

Serve with raita.

let them sizzle for a min

add in onions and chillies

saute till golden

add in ginger garlic paste

cook for a min or so

add in tomatoes

cook that well

add your favourite veggies

mix well

add salt and spice powders

add coriander and mint leaves

mix well

add semiya..i used roasted

add it in

mix well

add in coconut milk

add in water

mix well

bring it to a boil

cover and simmer

now it is done
