    About Aloo Tikki

Alu tikki, also known as alu ki tikkia or alu ki tikki is an Indian snack made of boiled potatoes, peas, and various curry spices. It is popular in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It is served hot with Green Chutney, Tamarind Chutney, as well as dahi (yoghurt).

Aloo Tikki are deep-fried mashed potato patties with coriander, onions and spices. Some North Indian dhabas or cafe-style eateries make sandwich with aloo tikki stuffed between two slices of bread.

I love making cutlets, this is one of the simple cutlet made with potatoes. I call them as tikki because there is no cornflour coating in them.

Traditionally this is deep fried, but I pan fried it with a little bit of oil to make it even more healthy. Still it tasted awesome. You can have it with ketchup or any of the chaat chutneys.

    Ingredients

    • Potatoes - potatoes are boiled, peeled and mashed to form the mixture.
    • Onions - these are optional, you can add or skip. And make sure to finely chop onions.
    • Green chillies - can be adjusted as per your taste and requirements.
    • Spice powders - I used chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric, garam masala powder and chat masala powder.
    • Oil - you can use any oil for pan frying. even ghee can be used.
    • Coriander leaves - make sure to use lots of fresh coriander leaves for the filling.
    • Bread crumbs - helps with the binding of the aloo tikki.

    Step by Step Pictures

1)Take boiled peeled potatoes in a bowl. Mash them roughly using a fork or potato masher.

2)Add in coriander leaves and onions in the potatoes.

3)Add in spice powders, salt into the potatoes and mix well.

    4)Add in breadcrumbs for binding.

5)Mix this really well till the mixture comes together.

6)Take small portion from it and shape into tikki.

7)You can make it thick or thin as per your liking.

8)Once all tikkis are shaped, place them in fridge for 10 minutes to firm up.

9)Heat oil for shallow frying. Drop tikki in and pan fry till golden brown on both sides.

10)Let the tikkis cook and get golden in colour.

    11)Serve.
