Banana - use ripe banana for making smoothie. If you have ripe bananas on hand, peel the skin and place them in freezer safe bag and store in freezer. So you can make smoothie whenever you want. Frozen bananas in smoothies are excellent because you can skip using ice cubes.

Milk - Full fat milk adds the required creaminess to the smoothie. But for dairy free option you can use oat milk, soy milk or almond milk.

Flavourings - Drinking chocolate powder, malt milk powder, cocoa powder, instant coffee, peanut butter can be used in this smoothie.

Sweetener - Honey, sugar, brown sugar, jaggery and maple syrup can be used.

How to Freeze Bananas for Smoothies

    freezing whole bananas for smoothie

In my opinion frozen bananas are great for making smoothies. When using frozen bananas you don't have to worry about using ice cubes to make smoothie creamy. The frozen banana makes the smoothie thick and creamy.

You can easily find a bag of frozen banana in super markets. But Freezing banana at home is very easy. Take ripe bananas, peel off skin, cut into thick rounds. Place it in a baking sheet and place it into your freezer. Freeze overnight or preferably 6 to 8 hours.

Once frozen, collect the frozen banana and put it inside a freezer safe ziploc bag and keep frozen till use.

Sometimes I even freeze whole bananas with skins on. It is quite easy to peel off the skins from the banana when frozen. You can use frozen bananas in smoothies, thaw and use in baking as well.
