Bread Pudding Recipe with step by step pictures. Delicious bread pudding which is easy to make and taste amazing with a drizzle of vanilla custard sauce.

    Bread Pudding

I get many emails from my viewers to share easy puddings and desert ideas. This is one recipe which i made recently and it is addictive. It needs a handful of ingredients which u must be already having on hand. The taste is just fantastic.

    About this Recipe

Bread pudding is a bread-based dessert that is popular in many cuisines around the world. It is made with stale bread and milk or cream, with eggs, a type of fat such as oil, butter, or suet, and a variety of other ingredients depending on whether the pudding is sweet or savoury. Sweet bread puddings can be made with sugar,
syrup, honey, dried fruit, nuts, and spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, or vanilla. The bread is soaked in the liquids before being mixed with the remaining ingredients and baked.

Why do they call it bread pudding?

After the 13th century, when the recipe began to include eggs, milk, and a type of fat to soak the bread in, the dessert became known as bread and butter pudding rather than poor mans pudding before being shortened even further to just bread pudding.

I have already shared a baked eggless bread pudding recipe in this blog. This one is a classic bread pudding recipe made with eggs and it is the ultimate comfort food on a cold day. Love it on its own or with some custard sauce on the side.

What is vanilla custard made of?

Simple ingredients like milk, cream, egg yolks, vanilla, and sugar, combined with a lot of whisking, yield a sweet, velvety thickened cream - a custard - that can be eaten on its own or served on top of almost anything, from berries to pancakes.

    Ingredients for Classic Bread Pudding

    Milk:
Milk serves several purposes in baked goods. It provides liquid to hydrate the dry ingredients, adds flavour, aids browning, and softens texture.

    Vanilla Essence:
Because of the fantastic flavour it adds, vanilla essence is used in almost every recipe for baked goods. Vanilla extract is always added to desserts because it adds flavour chemically and also brings out the flavours of other ingredients in the mixture.

    Raisins :
Raisins are dried grapes. It is grown in many parts of the world and can be eaten raw or cooked, baked, or brewed.

I made this simple custard sauce using custard powder and milk. I will soon share a traditional custard sauce recipe using eggs soon.

    How to Make Bread Pudding

    • Grease a baking pan with butter and set aside. Preheat oven to 180 degree C.
    • Take buns and cut into cubes and let them dry out sitting in the board for an hour or so.
    • Take milk, cream and butter in a sauce pan and heat it till the butter is melted.
    • Now take eggs, sugar and vanilla in a bowl and whisk well till combined.
    • Add in the milk and cream mix and whisk well.
    • Now add bread cubes in this mix and let this sit for 30 mins or so.
    • Now pour this in baking pan, top with raisin and make sure it is immersed in the custard mix. Top with some more cubes of butter and sprinkle some sugar on top.
    • Pop this in oven and bake for 35 to 40 mins. Remove it and set aside.
    • While it is cooking, make the custard, Take custard powder and sugar in a bowl, add some milk and mix into a smooth mix.
    • Heat milk in a sauce pan and bring it to a boil. Now reduce the flame and add in the custard mix and cook till it thickens.
    • Now remove it from stove and add in vanilla. Let it cool down, pour it into a jug and set aside.
    • When serving, scoop some pudding a serving plate, top with some custard sauce and serve.
