Dates and Nuts Halwa

Festive season is upon us. Navarathri is coming right now, later diwali. All we need to make out festive occasions even brighter is some easy delicious sweets.

Sweets like halwa or barfi or even a simple kheer would brighten those special occasions.

You will need a total of 30 mins to make this halwa. You can soak the nuts in milk for less time if you want. But make sure you grind till smooth. If you don’t have much time on hand then this halwa is best.

Few Tips and Tricks:

1)You can soak nuts and dates for 1 hour for better grinding.
2)Grind the paste coarse if you want halwa with little texture.
3)Add ghee little at a time and keep cooking.
4)You can add more dates if you want to reduce sugar.
5)This halwa taste good the next day,
6)You can add cardamom powder if you like that flavour.
7)Adding a little saffron would enhance the flavour.

HOW TO MAKE DATES AND NUTS HALWA:

  • Soak nuts and dates in warm milk
  • Puree them till smooth.
  • Cook it in little ghee.
  • Add sweetener of your choice
  • Add ghee little at a time and keep cooking.
  • Cook till it leaves the sides of the pan.
  • Add flavourings if you need.
  • Serve.

What all Nuts can you use for this halwa?

You can use any nuts as you like and as you can afford.

  • Cashews and Almonds are best since it adds so much taste to the halwa
  • Pistachios add a rich flavour
  • Dates adds nice sweetness
  • Raisins and sultanas can be added for extra sweetness
  • Addition of figs and apricots adds texture to the halwa.

Delicious dates and nuts halwa made using mixed nuts and dates. Easy and perfect sweet to make for this diwali.

Ingredients

  • Mixed Nuts - 2 cups I used a mix of cashews, pistachios, walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts
  • Dates - 10
  • Brown Sugar or Palm Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Warm Milk - 1 1/2 cup
  • Ghee - 1/4 cup

Instructions

  • Take nuts and dates in a bowl, Add in warm milk and let it soak for 30 mins.
  • Now take it in a blender and puree till smooth.
  • Heat 1 tblsp ghee in a kadai. Add in pureed nuts. Saute for 5 mins on low heat till the raw smell leaves.
  • Now add in sugar or jaggery and mix well. Keep cooking on low heat till sugar melts and halwa thickens.
  • Now add ghee little at a time and keep cooking till halwa leaves the sides of the pan. It will take around 8 to 10 mins.
  • Serve warm.
