Mint lemonade is a refreshing and easy to make summer drink that is made with fresh mint leaves, lemon juice, sugar, salt, ice, and cold water. Everything is mixed together in a jar, then poured into glasses and served right away. The result is a refreshing cooler that wakes you up right away.

    Mint Lemonade

I love lemonade a lot. I make it with quite a lot of fruits. It is very very refreshing during hot summer days. One of my favorite lemonade is my Pink sparkling lemonade and Watermelon lemonade. But one of my all time favorite is with lots of fresh mint leaves. It is very easy to make and very very tasty with a fresh taste.

    About Mint Lemonade

Making mint lemonade is so easy. You don't need store-bought syrup or soda. Only basic, fresh ingredients that you probably already have at home. The mint gives it a fresh refreshing taste. Kids also like the flavor, so it's perfect for all ages.

Although adding salt to a drink may sound odd, it works like magic in this case. It balances everything without giving it a salty taste by cutting through the sugar and tartness. Also, it helps your hydration, particularly during the heat. If you wish a more typical nimbu-pani texture, you can even add a pinch of black salt.

My favorite part about this drink is, it is easily customizable. Do you want it tart? More lemon should be added. Do you want it sweeter? A little more sugar should be added. It's also safe to make a huge batch and store it in the refrigerator, ready to pour anytime you need a cooling break.

Fresh mint and acidic lemon juice is just perfect because of the coolness and sharpness. The drink is more balanced since the sugar balances the tartness and the bit of salt brings out all the flavors.

Why I Like This Recipe: To be honest, I only do this when I'm too tired to do anything else. When I want to avoid having another cup of tea or after a long walk, this is my go to drink.  My niece enjoys it as well. She insists on pouring it herself every time and refers to it as "green juice."

    Ingredients

Fresh Mint Leaves: The essential ingredient which adds fresh and bright taste to it.

Lemon Juice : It balances the sweetness of the sugar and adds zingy zesty taste.

Sugar & Salt : This balances the tartness of the lemon and sweetens the drinks. A pinch of salt, adds so much balance to the drink.

    Hacks

Use frozen mint or lemon juice cubes: Frozen mint leaves or lemon juice ice cubes comes handy when you don't have any lemons on hand.

Sweetener: Choose honey or a small bit of jaggery syrup if you're attempting to avoid processed sugar.

Prep ahead with frozen cubes: Fill ice cube trays with the mixture, then freeze them.

    Expert Tips

    • Taste and adjust the sugar and lemon juice in this recipe.
    • You can use brown sugar in this, but it may affect the colour. Honey, maple syrup or agave is a perfect choice.
    • Enjoy this cold for refreshing feel.
    • You can strain this mixture through a sieve for smooth taste.

Storage:  Although fresh mint lemonade is preferable, it can be stored in fridge for a long time. Simply pour it into a tight jar and store it in the refrigerator.

Serving: Serve this chilled drink by itself or with a light snacks like sandwiches, pakoras, or salads.

    FAQ

Q:Can I use bottled lemon juice?

For flavor and brightness, fresh juice is always preferable, but bottled juice can be used  when fresh juice is not available.

    Q:Can I skip the salt?

Yes, but even a tiny amount adds balance and highlights the flavor of mint and lemon.

Q:What can I use instead of sugar?

Good alternatives are honey, agave, or even jaggery syrup.

Q:Can I substitute soda for water?

Of course! You may get a sparkling mint lemonade that is highly refreshing. To maintain the fizz, simply combine all the ingredients except for the soda and stir it in last.

    Variations

Mint Cucumber Lemonade: In the blender, add the lemon juice, mint, and a few chunks of peeled cucumber. It makes the drink seem refreshing.

Spiced Version: This becomes more flavourful with a teaspoon of chaat masala or roasted cumin powder.

Sparkling Lemonade: For a bubbly, café style beverage, use sparkling water or soda in place of cold water.
