    Ragi simili is a recent favourite snack in our home. It is very easy to make and needs just 4 ingredients. It takes less than 30 mins to put together and your kids will love it. Unlike my ragi ladoo, this is made little different.

    About Ragi Simili Urundai Recipe

    Ragi has so many health benefits in them and it is a good ingredient to include in your diet as well as your kids diet. Ragi is High in Protein, iron, calcium. It promoted weight loss, prevents diabetics and good for digestion.

    Ragi simili is a popular village style snack which is packed with so many nutrients in them. Specially it is made for nursing mother which increases their milk supply. This ragi simili is made with peanuts, ragi, jaggery and cardamom. Sesame seeds are added too if needed.

    Ragi is a healthy grain, specially for babies, toddler and kids. It makes an amazing first food for babies. If you are planning to start ragi as their first food, then I strongly recommend you to start with ragi.

    Ragi is loaded with calcium & protein. Including ragi daily in our diet is highly recommended. It is good for new mom's to increase their milk production. Helps in preventing hair loss, improves weight loss and it is packed with tons of health benefits with them.

    Ingredients

    Peanuts - Peanuts is roasted ground and added in ragi ladoo.

    Ragi flour - Ragi flour is roasted made into chapati dough like. Shaped into disc and cooked on a tawa.

    Powdered jaggery - jaggery is used for sweetener. You can use date jaggery also.

    Cardamom powder - Use for flavouring. You can use dry ginger powder also.

    Ghee - ghee is used to cook the roti.

    How to Make Ragi Simili

    Making Ragi Dough - Roast ragi flour until aromatic. Make dough by adding salt, ghee and water.

    Roasting Peanuts - Take peanuts in a dry pan and roast for 8 to 10 mins on medium heat till it is well roasted. Grind them coarsely in a food processor.

    Cooking Ragi Adai - Take small portion of ragi dough. Flatten it and cook on tawa on low heat until it is cooked well and crispy. Now remove this and cool it.

    Making Ragi Simili - for take ragi roti and crumble them. Add it to blender along with peanuts, jaggery, ghee and cardamom. Blend them to a combine mixture. Now shape this into small ladoo and enjoy.

    Simili Urundai (Step by Step Pictures)

    1)Take all your ingredients. Start by roasting ragi flour. Roast on low medium heat until fragrant.

    2)Take ragi flour in a bowl. Sprinkle salt over it.

    3)Add in water and make it into a soft dough.

    4)Knead the dough well.

    5)Now take small portion from dough. Flatten it and cook on tawa on both sides on very low heat until cooked well. Drizzle ghee on it and cook well.

    6)It has to cook really well. Once cooked, remove and set aside.

    7)In the same pan in which we roasted ragi flour, add peanuts and toast well.Once roasted, remove and set aside to cool.

    8)Take the roasted peanuts in a blender and powder them. You can grind coarse or fine as per your liking.

    9)Now take the cooled ragi roti, tear them apart and add them to the blender or food processor.

    10)Add the roasted crushed peanuts.

    11)Add in jaggery to taste. You can use date sugar as well.

    12)Add in cardamom powder. You can also use ground dry ginger.

    13)Grind all these well to a smooth mixture.

    14)take small portion and shape it into ladoo.

    15)Enjoy.

    Expert Tips

    • Make sure you roast the peanuts well. For quicker option, you can use readymade toasted peanuts. 
    • Roasting ragi flour will add good aroma which is highly recommended.
    • Sesame seeds can be toasted and added in this too.
    • Use good quality organic powdered jaggery, if you don’t have powdered jaggery grate your jaggery and use.
    • Cook the ragi adai till 15 to 20 mins till it is crispy. Which will make the ragi puttu fine and increases its shelf life.
    • Cool the peanuts and ragi adai completely before grinding which makes the grinding process easy.

    Serving & Storage

    Ragi Simili can be served as a snack with your evening coffee, tea or milk.

    Store it in an airtight container. Ragi simili stays good for 5-6 days in the refrigerator or 1 to 2 days at room temp.

    Equipment

    • Blender

    Ingredients

    • 1½ cups Peanuts
    • 1 cup Ragi flour
    • ¾ cup Jaggery (or 1 cup)
    • ½ teaspoon Cardamom powder
    • ¼ teaspoon Salt
    • Hot water as needed
    • Ghee as needed

    Instructions

    • Now lets roast ragi flour. In the same pan which you roasted peanuts, Add in ragi flour and roast them for 3 to 4 mins till it is aromatic. Set aside in a bowl. Add in salt and hot water and make it into a soft dough. Set aside.
    • Heat a tawa, drizzle in ghee or oil. Divide the ragi dough into two portions. Take one portion and flatten it on the tawa. Cook on medium high heat for 8 to 10 mins on each sides till it is crispy and cooked. Remove it to a plate and break into small pieces. Set aside to cool completely. Once it is cooled. Take it in a blender and powder to a fine crumb like texture. The texture will be like Puttu.
    • Take peanuts in a dry pan and roast for 8 to 10 mins on medium heat till it is well roasted. Set aside in a plate to cool. Once it is completely cooked, take it in a food processor and crush it coarsely. You can make it fine powder too.
    • Now in a food processor or blender jar. Take peanuts, ragi puttu, powdered jaggery, cardamom powder and pulse few times to mix.Add it in a bowl. Take small portion from the mix and shape it into tight laddoos.
    • Set aside in a plate and enjoy.

    Notes
