Khichdi is such a healthy one to feed your baby, since it has dal in it. It gives the protein which your baby needs. And it is yummy too. I have showed you few variations of making it. A simple dal khichdi and spinach khichdi, this one is a vegetable khichdi. It is packed full of vegetables and spinach, so much more healthy for your baby.

Things to remember before making this

1)Cook rice and dal properly till it is almost mashed up, that helps in easy digestion in babies.

2)Always wash rice and dal very well to remove all the starch and acky stuff from it.

3)Add garlic and asafoetida helps in digestion in babies.

4)This khichdi is so filling and nutritious meal for your babies.

5)You can start feeding this for babies above 6 months.

6)Always feed this meal for lunch, not for dinner.

7)The
consistency of this is up to you. You can mash them with a potato
masher, or put them in a blender and make into a fine puree. I make it
into a fine puree.

8)Adding ghee enhances the flavour and make it more nutritious for you baby and helps in weight gaining in babies.

9)Make sure the ghee which you use is pure ones. I make my own ghee.

10)Rice wont cause constipation, allergies in babies.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

Start
by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your
baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water
and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn
the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

How to make Rice, Dal & Vegetable Khichdi:

Ingredients:

Rice – 3 tblspn

Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu – 3 tblspn
Mixed Vegetables – 1/2 cup chopped (Carrots, Beetroots, Cauliflower, Potato)
Spinach – a handful
Garlic – 3 fat cloves

Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – a pinch

Salt to taste
Homemade Ghee – 1 tblspn

Water – 1 1/2 cup

Method:

Take rice and dal in a bowl and wash it well. Now drain it and add into pressure cooker.

Add in chopped vegetables, garlic, asafoetida, salt.

Add
in water and cover the cooker. Pressure cook this for 5 whistle and
simmer it for 5 mins. Switch off the flame and let the steam escape all
by itself.

Open
the cooker and mash the rice with a potato masher or if you want it to
be smooth, you can take that in a blender and puree them.

Pour this into bowl. Drizzle in homemade ghee and mix well.

Feed your baby warm.

Is paasi parupu more nutrious than toor dhaal? my son is 6 months 10 days old i am giving toor dhaal kitchadi. so i thought of changing it to paasi paruppu if it is more nutrious.

Hi, thanks for the recepies .. I have a doubt, I heard that green leafy veggies are not meant to be cooked too much as you will lose its vitamins and minerals in it. So is it ok to just put the leaf in hot boiling water keep it closed for few minutes and then mix it with rice? Pls reply. Thanks😊
