Easy Potato Kurma Recipe - Aloo Korma for Chapati, Roti & Pulao

This is one curry which i make very often, but somehow i missed to share it here. Few days back i made this for dinner..Many of you have been asking me to share this recipe as soon as i shared the image on instagram. So here i am sharing you the recipe for simple potato kurma..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves: 4


Oil - 2 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tsp
Cinnamon / Pattai - 2 cm stick
Onion - 1 large chopped finely
Green Chilli - 2 slit
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblspn
Tomato Puree - 2 large pureed
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi - 1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
Cumin Powder / Jeera Podi - 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 2 tsp
Green peas - 1 cup ( i used frozen)
Potato - 2 large peeled and cubed
Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
Salt to taste
Water as needed

For Grinding:
Coconut - 1 cup grated
Poppy Seeds / Khus Khus / Kasa Kasa - 1 tblspn


Take coconut and khus khus in a blender and make it into a fine puree. Set aside.

Heat oil in a kadai. Add in cumin, fennel, cinnamon and let it sizzle.

Add in onions and cook till golden. Add in chillies and mix well. Add in salt and mix well

Add in ginger garlic paste and cook for a min or so.

Add in tomato puree and cook till oil separates from the mix.

Add in all the spice powders and mix well.

Now add in the ground masala and cook till oil separates.

Add in potatoes and mix well. Add in water and mix well.

Transfer this to a pressure cooker and cook this for 2 whistle. Now simmer the flame and cook for 5 more mins. Now turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself.

Open the cooker and add in peas and simmer for 2 more mins.

Add in coriander leaves and mix well.

Serve with roti

Take all your ingredients

Take coconut in a blender

add in poppy seeds

Make it into as smooth puree..set aside
Heat oil in a pan, add in cumin, fennel and cinnamon

let them sizzle for a min

add in onions and chillies

Saute them well

Add in salt

Mix well..cook till golden brown

Add in ginger garlic paste

mix well

add in tomato puree

Cook till oil separates

Add in spice powders

Mix that around

Add in coconut paste

mix well

cook till oil separates

add in potatoes

mix well

add water

pour the mix to a pressure cooker and cook

now it is done

add in peas..this is frozen so i am using it in the last, if you are using fresh add it with the potatoes

mix well and simmer it for few more mins

finally add in coriander leaves and mix well
