These cookies are very soft and fluffy in nature. This is made using simple ingredients and also very easy to make. This has a nice rich chocolate flavor to it and also the cookies are coated in icing sugar which enhances the cookies to the next level.

    About Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Chocolate crinkle cookies is an easy recipe, you need a handful of ingredients which you might already have on hand. When the cookies are baked it cracks on top and gives a nice crinkled effect over the cookies. Looks so pretty.

Since these cookies are sugar coated before baking, this gives a nice cracked effect, which makes it look good. These crinkled cookies are popular in American and European countries, especially during Christmas times. These cookies go well with coffee, tea and even hot chocolate.

Mixing the butter and sugar together makes the dough light and airy in texture. Chilling the dough helps the cookies to hold their shape while baking. The icing sugar coating mixes with the dough while baking, giving that cracked topping.

Cooling the dough in the refrigerator for 2-3 hrs helps in shaping the dough, making the job easier. You can use an ice cream scoop if you want uniform sized cookies. Adjust the baking time depending on cookie size to avoid cookies getting overbaked.

This cookie does not need any fancy ingredient or any tool, just an ice cream scoop or spoon is more even. My kids maha and mahi always fight for who is going to shape the dough and coating the icing sugar. They are also a perfect evening snack especially for someone who has kids in their home like me. If you love crinkle cookies like me, check my red velvet crinkles.

    Ingredients

All Purpose Flour / Maida (1 cup / 120 grams): This forms the base and is also the main ingredient for the cookies.

Sugar (⅔ cup / 130 grams): This gives the sweetness to the dough, and balances the cocoa flavor.

Eggs (2): This helps in binding the ingredients and gives a soft texture to the dough.

Vanilla Extract (1 tsp): This gives an aroma and enhances flavor.

Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (½ cup / 60 grams): This gives chocolate flavor and also that brown color for the cookies.

Salt (¼ tsp): This enhances the sweetness and balances flavors.

Baking Powder (1 tsp): This helps the cookies to rise while baking and gives a soft texture.

Unsalted Soft Butter (¼ cup / 60 grams): This gives the creaminess for the cookie dough and makes it extra soft.

Confectioners/Icing Sugar (½ cup / 50 grams): This is rolled over the cookies to create a crinkle effect.

    Expert Tips

    • Start adding the water and eggs gradually to the dough, this prevents the dough from drying out.
    • If you are baking for the 1st time then you can test by baking only one cookie first to check the texture and then you can continue with the whole batch.
    • Make sure to maintain the same temperature in the oven throughout the baking process.
    • Store it in an airtight container at room temp, it will stay fresh for 7-10 days.
    • It is perfect with tea, coffee, or as a dessert plate.

    FAQ

Can I use brown sugar instead of white sugar?

Yes, you can use it but the texture of the cookie may slightly change.

    Is cooling the dough necessary?

Cooling the dough helps to hold its shape and prevents spreading, you can skip it but the cookies may become flattened.

Can I make them gluten free?

Use almond or oat flour instead of maida, but the texture will vary.

    Variations

Choco chip crinkle cookies: If you are a chocolate person then, add chocolate chips for extra richness and taste.

Spiced Crinkle Cookies : If you like the flavor of cinnamon, nutmeg, then you add a little bit of those for a spiced version of crinkle cookies.

Caramel Crinkle Cookies: You can fill the centre of the cookies with a small caramel piece in the center. This version will be more liked by kids.
