Homemade Tofu Recipe - How to Make Tofu at Home (Easy Recipe)

Few of my readers had doubt in tofu, they keep on sending me questions about tofu. Many of them cannot find it in their place. So i decided to create homemade tofu and it is much more easier and quicker. Many of you think that making tofu is so hard and needs so much effort, but actually speaking it is not a big deal..It is so much simple and easy to make your own.

First thing you have to make is Soy milk. If you can get your hands on storebought soy milk then great, you can use those. But for all those who cannot get soy milk, don't worry. I have the recipe for you. 


While making this, you will get the water which is left from the curdled milk..That is called as whey water,it is so healthy..you can use it to make all kinds of stuffs..Don't throw that away..You can make rasam out of it or use that water to knead chapati dough.You can use that in your dishes..So hope this helps out...So try it and let me know what you think..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 5 mins
Resting Time : 30 mins to 1 hour
Makes : 250 grams


Unsweetened Soy Milk – 1 liter
Lemon Juice – 3 to 4 tblspn
Water - 1/4 cup

(Instead of lemon juice or vinegar, if using them, you will need only 1 tblspn to 2 tblspn)


Take lemon juice in a bowl, add in 1/4 cup of water and mix well. Set aside.

For making tofu, bring milk to a boil, once it reaches boil, add in lemon juice and keep mixing, it will start to curdle, if it didn't curdle add in more lemon juice.

Now place a sieve over a bowl, line it with clean cheesecloth or white cloth. 

Pour the curdled mix over the sieve and once it is poured in, take the curdled mix carefully and run it under tap water really well.

Now tie it like a bundle, and place a heavy thing over it. Press it often to remove the water as much as possible. I left it for 1 hour and i got a beautiful block of tofu.

Cube it out and tofu is done.


1)The whey water which you get is very nutritious, use that for kneading chapati dough or making rasam.

2)You can use vinegar to curdle milk.

3)Store tofu in a container with cold water in fridge. 

4)You can use this tofu in all the recipes which calls for tofu.

Take lemon juice in a bowl

add water

mix well and set aside

place a colander over a bowl

line it with clean cheese cloth or muslin cloth

take soy milk in a sauce pan

bring it to a boil..keep stiring

once it boils, take it off the heat and add in the lemon mix

mix well

add more

you will see the curds separating

now it is almost done

cover with a plate and let it sit for 10 mins

drain it

pour it carefully in the cheesecloth

gently squeeze the cloth so the water drain off

like this

take it and squeeze gently

now fold it

place a heavy weight over it


cut it in cubes and store covered with cold water in fridge
