Brinjal Puli Kulambu Recipe - Kathirikai Puli Kuzhambu Recipe

This is one of our favourite. I make it atleast once a week and it is a family favourite. This kulambu with hot rice and papad is heaven.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 35 to 40 mins
Serves: 4


Oil - 4 to 5 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds / Vendayam / Methi - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves a small handful
Shallots / Sambar Onion - 10 peeled
Tomato - 1 large chopped
Brinjal - 2 chopped
Salt to taste
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Chilli Powder - 1 tblspn
Coriander Powder - 2.5 tblspn
Jaggery or Sugar - 2 tsp
Tamarind - 1 lemon size
Water as needed


Soak tamarind in water for 10 mins. Squeeze and extract the pulp.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad dal, fenugreek and curry leaves.

Add in shallots, brinjal and tomatoes and saute for 5 mins till it slightly turns golden.

Add in a  spice powders,salt and mix well. Add tamarind juice and mix well.

Add jaggery and mix well.

Bring it to a boil, simmer for 10 to 15 mins till done.

Serve with rice.

Take all your ingredients

Heat oil, crackle, mustard, urad dal and fenugreek..Add curry leaves as well

add onions, tomatoes and brinjal

mix well

cook for 5 mins on high flame

add turmeric powder

add salt

mix well

now the brinjal is turning golden

add coriander powder

add chilli powder

mix well

add tamarind juice

mix well

add jaggery

mix well and simmer for few mins

now it is done
