    Kids love this simple snack because it is cheesy on the inside while super crispy on the outside. Specially when it is served with a bowl of marinara, tomato ketchup or tomato soup.

    About Bread Cheese Bites

    Bread and cheese is a versatile ingredient to have on hand. During busy mornings or after school snack situation, you can whip up a quick cheese sandwich in a matter of minutes.

    This snack is one such recipe, all you need is to sandwich bread and cheese together and cut them into bite size pieces. The pieces are dipped in egg or cornstarch slurry and coated in breadcrumbs before frying till crispy. The results is amazing, it is so crispy and cheesy at the same time. All you need is a bowl of ketchup or marinara sauce to dip it.

    For a spicy variation, you can spread some pesto, schezwan sauce or green chutney on the bread to add more flavour. You can infact lay few slices of onions over the cheese as well.

    How to Make Bread Cheese Bites (Stepwise Pictures)

    Make Cheese Bread

    1)Take couple of bread slices. You can use white or brown bread of choice. You need cheese slices as well. Slices of cheese makes easy to cut this into bites. But you can use cheese spread or grated cheese as well.

    2)I used 2 slices of cheese for this recipe. Place 2 slices of cheese on the bread.

    Pro tip: You can smear some green chutney or schezwan sauce over the bread for added flavour.

    3)Cover the cheese with the other slice of bread.

    4)Cut the bread into small cubes.

    Make Coating

    5)Take cornstarch in a bowl. We are going to make a cornstarch slurry for the bread. Instead of this you can use one beaten egg.

    6)Mix water into the cornstarch to form thin batter.

    Assembling bread cheese bites

    7)Take each piece of bread and dip it into the cornstarch water.

    8)Now roll this in breadcrumbs. This coating helps seal the cheese better and also creates a super crispy exterior. This one is panko breadcrumbs.

    9)You can even coat them in fresh breadcrumbs.

    10)Once all the pieces is well coated, place this in fridge and let it rest for 30 minutes .before frying.

    Frying

    11)Heat oil in a frying pan. Place the bread cheese bites and fry till golden brown on both sides.

    12)Flip over and cook on other side as well. Let both the sides get golden brown in colour. Serve with ketchup.

    • You can use white or brown bread of choice.
    • Spread bread slices with schezwan sauce, green chutney or any sauces that you prefer.
    • You can add any sliced vegetables over the bread. Onions, bell peppers, potatoes, carrots are great choice.
    • Fry the bread pieces in butter instead of oil.

    Serving & Storage

    Bread cheese bites is best served hot. So storing them for longer period is not recommended. It makes them soggy.

    Enjoy with schezwan sauce or green chutney. It taste amazing specially when it is served with a bowl of marinara, tomato ketchup or tomato soup.

    Which bread to use in this recipe?

    White bread, brown bread or multigrain bread is best. You need some kind of soft bread. Artisan bread or Sour dough bread cannot be used since it can be quite chewy.

    How to Air Fry Bread Cheese Bites?

    You can brush the top with some oil. Place them in a 180 degree C air fryer and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Flip them half way through for even browning.

    Ingredients

    • 2 slices Bread
    • 2 slices Cheese Slices
    • 3 tbsp Cornstarch
    • ¼ cup Water
    • ½ cup Breadcrumbs
    • Oil for pan frying

    Instructions

    • Take bread slices, place cheese slice over the bread, cover with other slice. Now cut it into bite size pieces.
    • Mix cornflour with some water. Dip the bread in the cornflour mix and coat with breadcrumbs.
    • Heat oil in a frying pan, fry the bread slices in them till crispy. Strain and serve with ketchup.
