How to Make Hot Coffee (Stepwise Pictures)
Method 1 : Beaten Coffee
This is a traditional method of making instant coffee. The coffee made using this method stays frothy and creamy longer. You can make one serving or more depending upon your preference. If you are making just one cup, you can beat the coffee with sugar in the serving cup itself.
2 Servings Coffee Measurement
- 1 tbsp Instant Coffee Powder
- 3 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Hot Water
- 2 servings Milk (around 300 ml)
Boiling Milk
1)Take milk in a coffee water or sauce pan. I prefer this long spouted coffee warmer. It has a small spout so you can pout the milk easily without spilling. Use any type of milk that you prefer. Place the warmer on heat and bring it to a full boil. keep warm until you finish beating the coffee.
Pro Tip: I work simultaneously when making coffee. As soon as I place the milk for boiling, I beat the coffee sugar mix. So when the milk starts to boil, the coffee will be beaten.
Beaten Coffee Mix
2)I made 2 servings of coffee. So I used a separate small bowl for whisking. If you are making one serving, you can whip this in the serving cup itself.
Take 1 tbsp of instant coffee and 3 tbsp of sugar in a small bowl. You can reduce the sugar and coffee amount as per your taste.
3)Add in 1 tbsp of hot water. The water should be boiling. Once water is added, use a spoon to whip (beat) the coffee sugar until it gets frothy and creamy.
4)This step will take around 1 to 2 minute. Keep mixing it using a spoon.
5)This is the texture we are looking for. The coffee and sugar mixture should be creamy. This is your beaten coffee mixture.
Mixing Coffee with Milk
6)Divide the beaten coffee mixture between two serving mugs. Pour hot milk over the beaten coffee slowly and mix well using a spoon.
7)As you mix the coffee with the milk, the mixture will turn creamy and frothy.
8)Serve beaten coffee immediately.
Method 2 : Cafe Style Coffee
This method of making cafe style instant coffee uses a milk frother. You can check my intro to learn about the various options of milk frother available. I used a manual steel frother. Here is the recipe for making
One serving of coffee measure
- 2 tsp Instant coffee
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 2 tbsp Hot water
- 150 ml Milk
Mixing Coffee & Sugar
1)Take 2 tsp of instant coffee in a coffee cup. Add in 1 tbsp of sugar. You can reduce the coffee and sugar as per your preference.
2)Pour in 2 tbsp of hot boiling water. Use a spoon to mix coffee and sugar mixture together till it gets combined. For this version, you don't have to beat the mixture. Just mix the coffee and sugar using a spoon or small whisk.
Frothing Milk Using Milk Frother
3)Now take the boiled (hot) milk in the milk frother. If you don't have milk frother, you can use a ladle to pour the milk from height to create the froth.
4)Cover the milk frother with the lid. Gently push it up and down to froth the milk. It takes just 10 to 12 pushes for the milk to turn foamy.
Making Cafe style coffee
5)Now the milk is foamy. Pour this over the coffee sugar mixture.

Thank you so much for this recipe! However what I found was after pouring milk into the cup, the coffee still smelt very milky and didn't foam up too well..so what I did is I took out an empty glass, put 1/2 teaspoon coffee powder in that and poured this ready cup into that empty cup from a height. Oh the foam. Oh the taste. Oh the coffee smell! But great method all in all 😄
Tan.
Thanks for this awesome cup of coffee I'm enjoying right now! Thumbs up!
