    What is Black coffee

Black coffee is a caffeinated beverage made using roasted coffee beans. It is made with coffee powder and water. Instant coffee powder can be used if you don't have much time on hand. but the real flavour and taste of the black coffee can be achieved from brewing.

Black coffee is also called as cafe noir. Americano is the name used for a black coffee made by brewing espresso and adding hot water. For best tasting coffee use the finese coffee beans and grind them fresh.

Black coffee is simply plain coffee that is brewed in water without the addition of sugar, milk or creamer. It has a slight bitter taste compared to other flavoured coffee. Coffee is consumed black without the addition of milk or creamer. Sugar or any sweetener can be added as per taste and preference. Although coffee is often served hot, it can also be served iced like my cold coffee.

    Black Coffee Ingredients

Coffee - For making a perfect cup of black coffee all you need is good quality coffee beans. You can grind coffee beans fresh in a coffee grinder or manual grinder. You can use store bought ground coffee. If you don't have much time on hand you can use instant coffee powder.

Water - for making black coffee you need water, You can dilute the coffee in as much water as needed. more water you add the lighter the coffee will be.

Sweetener - maple syrup, agave, sugar, brown sugar or honey can. be used to sweeten your coffee.

Optional - you can use regular milk, creamer, soy milk, almond milk or low fat milk in your black coffee if you prefer it that way check my hot coffee.

    Instant Coffee Vs Ground Coffee

Ground coffee is made from freshly roasted beans. Roasting coffee beans at home can be tricky. So it is more convenient to buy freshly roasted coffee beans from stores. There are many types of roasted beans available in the market. Some of the popular varieties are Light roast, Dark roast, Medium roast, Arabica beans & American Roast. You can experiment and pick your favorite type of roasted beans. Black coffee made using ground coffee taste best because of the intense coffee flavour.

Instant coffee is popular because it is easy to use and requires minimal equipment. It is the most preferred coffee variety all over the world. It is also convenient for traveling or when you don’t have access coffee maker.

Some store bought ground coffee has chicory added. The chicor helps to balance the coffee's natural bitterness, resulting in a milder, more rounded flavor. But I prefer to use whole ground coffee.

The caffeine levels depends on the type of coffee you use. Typically ground coffee has more caffeine than instant coffee.

    Types of Coffee Maker

Espresso Machine - An espresso machine brews coffee by forcing pressurized boiling hot water through ground coffee which produce a thick, concentrated coffee called espresso. Espresso is mixed with water to make black coffee or americano and mixed with steamed milk to make cappuccino and other variety of coffee.

Drip Coffee Maker - A drip coffee maker is a popular coffee making machine designed to brew coffee by dripping hot water over ground coffee beans placed in a filter. Hot brewed coffee is collected in the glass carafe placed in the hot plate of the machine which keeps the coffee hot.

Moka Pot - Moka pot is a popular way of making coffee. it is widely used in Italy. A moka pot has three chambers: one for the water, one for the ground coffee, and one for the finished brew. The coffee made using moka pot is called as espresso which can be mixed with water to make black coffee.

French Press - French press coffee is a french technique of making coffee which gives you maximum coffee experience. The hot water extracts as much coffee flavours from the coffee grounds. Because the grinds remain in contact with the coffee, it gives a bold taste to the coffee.

Filter Coffee Maker - This is the traditional South Indian way of extracting coffee decoction from the ground coffee. It is usually made using steel or brass. To learn about it more, check this filter coffee recipe.

Pour Over Coffee - a method of brewing coffee by manually pouring boiling water very slowly through a filter filled with ground coffee beans which is placed over a carafe. The hot water blooms the coffee and extract as much flavour as possible.

    Grinding Coffee Beans

Manual Coffee Grinder - it is a vintage model which is popular because it is compact and easy to carry when travelling. The blades can be adjusted with a dial to adjust the coarse level of the coffee grind.

Electric Coffee Grinder - Electric coffee grinder (as shown in the image above) can be used for fast grinding. You can adjust the timer to get more or less quantity of coffee ground. Options can be changes to get the proper texture needed for making the type of coffee. A small coffee grinder that looks like a blender is also available in the market. You can use your blender for grinding coffee but it is recommended to use separate blende jar only for grinding coffee beans.

3)French press coffee is ready to enjoy.

    Black Coffee Using Instant Coffee

Here is the recipe for making black coffee using instant coffee powder. You can use any brand of coffee powder but try to use good quality powder for better tasting coffee.

    Ingredients Used

    • 1 cup Water
    • 1 tsp Instant Coffee (adjust)
    • 1 tsp Brown Sugar

    How to Make Instant Coffee

1)For making instant coffee you can use any brand of instant coffee powder that you like. I am using nescafe.

2)Take water in a sauce pan. Bring it to a full boil. Turn off the heat and let it sit for 1 minute.

3)Take instant coffee and brown sugar in a serving cup. Sugar is optional, if you don't prefer your coffee sweet you can skip this. Instead of brown sugar you can use refined sugar, honey or maple syrup as well.

4)Add little hot water first and dissolve the coffee with the sugar really well. You can beat this well till it gets foamy. Pour more water and mix well.

    5)Serve immediately.

    Moka Pot Coffee

I love filter coffee. I don't used to make it often though since it takes little extra time and i often stick with instant coffee. Ever since i discovered this moka pot, i am in absolute love with it. I make a batch of fresh strong brew in the morning and then i make second brew later that day. Loving my new coffee pot. So i thought to share how i make coffee in this pot.

    Ingredients Used

    • 2 tbsp Coffee Grounds
    • 1 cup Water

How to Make Coffee in Moka Pot

1)Take your moka pot. A moka pot has three chambers: one for the water, one for the ground coffee, and one for the finished brew.

2)Add water to the lower chamber of your Moka Pot. · Place the filter basket onto your lower chamber.

3)Add fresh coffee grounds in the filter basket. The more coffee you add the more strong the black coffee will be.

5)Cover the moka pot and place on low heat.

6)Freshly brewed black coffee is ready. The coffee brewed in the moka pot is strong like an espresso.
