    About Mango Salad

Salads are an important dish to serve for any gatherings or party. Specially if it is summer barbecue or get togethers. Making a batch of refreshing salad elevates the other dishes. Specially this summer mango salad is one of the best salad you could serve.

This is a Malaysian inspired salad recipe that has chilli paste added which makes this super delicious. The slight spice adds a new dimension of flavour to your salad.

When mangoes are in season, the first thing I whip up is this simple yet addictive salad. This calls for simple ingredients like mangoes, herbs, seasoning and lemon juice. The main ingredient that adds tons of flavour to this salad is sambal oelek also known as chilli garlic paste.

I always have a bottle of Sambal oelek in my fridge. I like to top it over my ramen or noodles, even add some over grilled chicken or morning eggs. If you don't have sambal on hand, the next best thing is schezwan chutney or even chilli garlic sauce.

You need the pungent flavour of chilli and garlic in this salad to make it addictive. I added coriander leaves alone, but you can add basil leaves and mint leaves too.

Chopped cucumbers can be added for crunchy hit. Make this super delicious salad all summer long along with my mango cucumber salsa and mango salsa.

    • Mango - use ripe mango for making this salad. Make sure the mango is sweet but still slightly firm so it holds in the salad better.
    • Fresh herbs - I used coriander leaves, you can use basil or mint leaves as well.
    • Sambal - You can use store bought sambal oelek. If you don't have sambal, add chilli garlic paste or sauce. You can even use schezwan sauce.
    • Salt & Sugar - taste and adjust the seasoning as per your liking. Depending on the sweetness of mangoes, you might need to add more sugar.
    • Lemon juice - a squeeze of lemon instantly brightens the mango salad and makes it refreshing.

    Step by Step Pictures

1)Choose ripe mangoes, but not super ripe. Else it may get mushy. Peel the mangoes and chop them into chunks.

2)Take chopped mangoes, sambal oelek, salt, sugar and chopped coriander leaves in a bowl.

3)Squeeze in fresh lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the mangoes with this spicy sauce mix.

Normally we malaysians use unripe mango for this.. We add light soy sauce, sugar, n cut green chillies in small pieces n toss it all together 🙂
