    Ellu Podi | Sesame Seed Powder Recipe

    Ellu podi or sesame seed powder made using roasting spices, sesame seeds and lentils. This can be served over some rice and a drizzle of ghee. You can have it with idli or dosa too.

    Ellu Podi Recipe

    I wanted to share this podi here for a long time. Even though this is a staple in our house. I somehow missed to share it here. Finally I made quite a few powders yesterday specially for blog. Will share all those soon.

    Ellu is also known as sesame seed in english. Sesame seeds has lots of health benefits, one of the main is iron and it is really good for kids and girl children.

    Ingredients for Sesame seed powder

    Urad Dal / Ulundu Paruppu - ½ cup
    Dry Red Chillies - 5 to 8
    Sesame Seeds / Ellu - 1 cup
    Garlic - 3 to 4
    Curry Leaves a handful
    Salt to taste

    How to Make Sesame Seed Powder

    • Heat oil in a pan, add in urad dal and roast till golden. Remove to a plate.
    • Add in dry red chillies and roast golden. Remove to a plate.
    • Add in sesame seeds and roast till done. Remove to a plate.
    • Take curry leaves in a pan. toast till crispy. Remove to a plate.
    • Cool down completely.
    • Take it a blender add in garlic and salt and powder till crushed.
    • Cool it down, store it in an air tight container.

    add in urad dal

     

    toast till golden

     

    now it is golden

     

    take it in a plate

     

    take chillies in a pan

     

    toast till golden

     

    set aside to cool

     

    take sesame seeds in a pan

     

    toast till it is popped

     

    take it in a plate

     

    add curry leaves and toast

     

    toast till crispy

     

    set aside to cool

     

    add some garlic to the mix

     

    take it in a blender

     

    add in salt

     

    powder it 

     

    done

     

    store
