Bread halwa is one thing which i wanted to try for very long time. I have never tasted this before, but i am sure it will taste good and similar to wheat halwa. Since it is diwali i decided to give this a go and it turned out to be super yummy.
Custard Powder Halwa
Preparation Time : 5 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Bread – 6 slices
Sugar – 1/2 cup or to taste
Milk – 2 cups
Ghee – 1/2 cup + 1 tblspn
Cashews a handful
Raisans / Kishmish a handful
Cardamom Powder – 1/2 tsp
Remove the crust and chop it into small pieces.
Heat ghee in a pan, add in cashews and fry till golden.Add in kishmish and fry. Remove it and set aside.
Now add in chopped bread in the ghee and fry till golden brown.
Now add in milk and mix well. Keep cooking till it thickens.
Add in sugar and mix well. Keep cooking till it starts to leave the sides.
Finally add a tblspn of ghee and mix well. Add in nuts and cardamom powder and mix well.

|remove the crust off|
|slice like this|
|cut into cubes|
|heat ghee in a pan and add in cashews|
|fry that till light golden|
|add in raisan|
|fry till golden|
|remove it and set aside|
|in the same ghee add in bread|
|let them crisp up|
|now it has started to change togolden colour|
|this is the colour which i want|
|add in milk|
|cook for few more mins. it will thicken up|
|now it has got really thick|
|this is the right stage|
|add in sugar|
|mix well..it will loosen a little|
|keep cooking, it will get shiny and thick|
|now it started to leave the sides|
|finally add in a tsp of ghee|
|add in cardamom powder|
|mix well..halwa done|
