    Tomato Kurma Recipe

    Tomato kurma or Thakkali kurma is a popular side dish for appam, idli, dosa or idiyappam. This taste delicious and is quite easy to make.

    Tomato Kurma Recipe

    Tomatoes are in season right now, it is very very cheap here. So i decided to use it and make so many recipes as possible. I made jams, juices and pickles. I also made some gravy dishes too. This is a simple kurma made using tomatoes and it is super easy to make and taste delicious with idiyappam, appam or any tiffin items. You will love my Tomato Masala.

    Tomato Kurma Preparation

    • Take all grinding ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth. Set aside.
    • Now heat oil in a pan, add mustard and urad dal. Add curry leaves and let them sizzle.
    • Add in onions and green chillies. some salt and turmeric and mix well. Cook till it gets soft.
    • Add in tomatoes and cook till it gets mushy.
    • Add in sugar and spice powders and mix well.
    • Pour water and bring it to a boil.
    • Add the ground masala and simmer for few mins.
    • Serve.

    Ingredients
      

    • Oil - 1 tblspn
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves a sprig
    • Onion - 1 large sliced thinly
    • Green Chillies - 1 slit
    • Tomatoes - 3 chopped finely
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar - 1 tsp
    • Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
    • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
    • For Grinding:
    • Coconut - ½ cup grated
    • Poppy Seeds / Khus Khus / Kasa Kasa - 1 tblspn
    • Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tsp
    • Cinnamon / Pattai - 3 cm piece

    Instructions
     

    • Take all grinding ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth. Set aside.

    • Add in tomatoes and cook till it gets mushy.

    • Serve.

    Tomato Kurma with Step by Step

    Prepare your ingredients
    first lets make the masala..take coconut in a blender
    add in fennel seeds and cinnamon
    add poppy seeds
    puree till smooth
    heat oil in a pan, add mustard and urad dal
    add curry leaves
    add sliced onions and green chillies
    mix that well
    add salt and turmeric
    mix well
    add in tomatoes
    cook till it gets mushy
    add sugar, chilli powder and garam masala powder
    mix well
    add water and mix well
    add the ground masala
    simmer for few mins
    done
