    Eggless Orange Cake Ingredients

ingredients for making eggless orange cake

Plain Flour - plain flour is also known as all purpose flour. I used plain flour for making this recipe, but for a healthy alternative you can swap it for wheat flour as well.

Raising Agent - I use both baking soda and baking powder in this recipe which provides soft and moist orange cake.

Oranges - whenever I use fruits in baking, I prefer to use freshly squeezed fruit juice. In this recipe I added freshly squeezed orange juice with pulp as well.

Yogurt - use plain unflavoured and unsweetened natural yogurt in the recipe. You can use greek yogurt as well.

Oil - I used flavourless vegetable or refined oil for this cake. You can use melted butter as well.

Flavourings - for flavourings I used vanilla extract and orange extract.

Tips for Orange Cake Taste Orange Like

    orange cake batter

Make sure you use fresh oranges whenever you make orange cake. Use peels, pulp and juice everything. Oranges has maximum flavours in their rind. So use a microplane or a zester to grate some orange rind in the cake.

Also when using orange juice. Squeeze one whole orange with pulp as well. Using orange juice with pulp in cake provides maximum flavour in your cakes.

Using orange pulp not only provides flavour but it imparts so much moistness to the cake.

How to Make Eggless Orange Cake (Stepwise Pictures)

    Preparing Cake Pan

1)I am using a 4 to 5 inch small round cake pan for this recipe. You can line the pan with some parchment paper. I greased the pan with oil and sprinkled some flour on it and coated it evenly. Tap off the excess and set aside.

    prepare cake pan

    Dry Ingredients

2)The next step is to sieve the dry ingredients together. In a sieve, take plain flour. Add in baking soda.

add baking soda to plain flour for making eggless orange cake

    3)Now add in baking powder.

    add baking soda to flour

4)Sieve this together. So the baking soda and baking powder is evenly dispersed.

    sift the dry ingredients

    5)This is your dry ingredients.

    sifted flour mix

    Making Cake Batter

6)Take oil in a bowl. Instead of using oil, you can use melted butter.

    take oil in a bowl

7)Add in powdered sugar. This is regular granulated sugar which I ground in a blender.

add sugar for making eggless orange cake

8)Add in a splash of vanilla extract.

add vanilla into oil and sugar

9)This recipe calls for orange juice. I took one big orange, peeled it, removed the seeds and ground it coarsely . So my orange juice has pulps as well which adds so much flavour and texture to the cake.

    add orange pulp

10)You need thick yogurt. Plain yogurt or unflavoured and unsweetened greek yogurt is best.

add in yogurt to oil mixture

11)I use some orange extract which I had on hand. You can skip this if you don't have it. But when using orange extract, just use few drops.

add few drops of orange extract

12)Mix the orange juice with sugar and orange pulp really well.

    mix well

    13)Add in the sifted flour.

    add in dry ingredients

14)Fold the flour into the orange juice mixture. Now you can see the orange segments is evenly dispersed into the batter. If you feel the batter is too thick, then you can add some milk and fold the batter.

fold batter gently. This is your orange cake batter

    Baking Orange Cake

15)Spoon the orange cake batter into the greased mould. Spread evenly using a spatula. Pop the cake pan into a 180 degree C preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes.

spoon cake batter into baking pan

16)Now bake the cake until it is done. Insert a toothpick in the centre to check whether the cake is baked or not. The toothpick has to come out clean.

    bake orange cake

17)Remove the cake from oven and set aside to cool. Once cooled, slice and serve.

      Hi Arthi

I was so excited the moment read your recipe of Eggless Orange cake that when I went back home from office I just tried the recipe carefully, but only to have a disaster cake, alas!!. It did not raise at all and the texture was like pudding. I guess liquid ingredients was more than required. I don't have the measuring cups. Kindly, give me your tips. I want to get an exact orange cake as it in ur post. Kindly help.

@AnonymousSorry to hear about your disaster. What i suggest you, for baking you need proper measuring cups and spoon. Because for baking measurements are more important. So please get measuring cups and spoons and use that for making cakes

      Hi Aarthi,
I tried this recipe today. Only difference is i poured it in a little flat pan and baked, as i dont have a deep round bowl. Initially looked like it baked well. Thought it dint get as brown crust as shown in your pic, edges were brown, and it slightly started cracking on top, When inserted toothpick, it came out clean. But after cooling , i saw its slight wet at bottom. Its happening to all my cakes. :(I tried changing my silicone bakeware to nonstick aluminium bakeware also. Still the same. What is that is going wrong. Can u help me?

Hi Arathi, I have tried with the same preparation. After 25 minutes the top of the cake comes out brown and I remove and test with tooth pick, but the inside was not done. I baked for another 5 minutes the cake became flat and after cooling down and cutting I saw it is not done at the middle.
What is the problem. I preheat it with 180 degree convection mode and my oven automatically buzz after preheat.

Hi. In india we get a variety of orange in which we can peel off the skin and remove the whole orange fruit inside from it. I removed the peel from the orange as well as the seeds and ground it in a blender whole. Hence you can see the pulp. But you can just use 1/2 cup of orange juice instead.
