    Kadambuttu Recipe

    Tasted this when we went on a trip to coorg last year, ever since wanted to recreate it. Finally remembered it and made these coorg kadumbuttu with spicy and tangy tomato chutney for evening tea. It was totally yummy.

    About Coorg Kadumbuttu

    Kadumbuttu is a steamed dumplings made using rice rava or cream of rice or idli rava. It is a popular recipe from coorg.

    Kadambuttu & Pandi Kari ( Rice Dumplings & Pork Curry ), is a must recipe for any weddings in coorg. It is made using rice rava and coconut. These both are cooked together in water till thick.  The mixture is let to cool down and shaped into balls. These balls are steamed and served with spicy curries.

    Ingredients for Kadumbuttu

    Rice Rava - rice is treated in certain way to achieve fine rava like texture.

    Coconut - Fresh coconut is added to lighten the kolukattai and create a softer dumplings.

    How to Make Coorg Kadumbuttu

    Making Kadumbuttu Mix - Heat water in a sauce pan and bring it to a boil. Add salt and sugar and mix well. Add in rice rava and mix well. Keep mixing till it gets thick. Remove to a bowl and cool it down. Add coconut and mix well.

    Shaping & Steaming - Take small portion and shape it into ball. Place it in a steamer and steam for 10 mins. Serve with chutney.

    How to Make Kadumbuttu (Stepwise Pictures)

     

    Bring water to a boil
    bring it to a boil
    add salt and sugar
    mix well
    add rice rava. check recipe
    mix well
    cook till it gets thick
    now it is all done
    remove it to a bowl and cool it down
    add coconut
    mix well
    take small portions 
     
    place it in a steamer
    steam cook for 10 mins
    now it is done
    Serve

    Expert Tips

    • You can use store bought rice rava or homemade.
    • You can easily find whether the puttu is cooked or not. The coconut added in the puttu will start to show on the outer layer which indicates the dumplings is cooked.
    • Make sure to steam them till it is cooked, you can break a dumpling to check whether it is cooked or not.
    • Be generous with the coconut, it adds so much flavour.

    Ingredients
      

    • 1 cup Rice Rava / Cream of Rice / Idli Rava
    • 3 cups Water
    • 2 teaspoon Salt
    • 1 teaspoon Sugar
    • 1 cup Grated Coconut grated

    Instructions
