    Tapioca Kootu Recipe with step by step pictures. This recipe is also known as Maravalli kizhangu is a quick stir fry that has the authentic flavor and it helps to gain weight.

    Tapioca Kootu

    Tapioca kootu is a best food for lactating moms. Amma makes this kootu for lunch daily during my first three months after pregnancy. I love this so much, that i can have it daily with no boring. Amma makes it little liquidy to go perfect with rice. You can make this thick and have it with meen kari.     Ingredients for Tapioca Kootu

    • Tapioca / Maravalli Kilangu - 1 large (around 4 cups when chopped)
    • Salt to taste
    • Water to boil tapioca

    For Grinding:

    • Coconut - 1 cup grated
    • Dry Red Chilli - 4
    • Garlic - 4 cloves
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp

    For Seasoning:

    • Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig

    How to Make Tapioca Kootu

    1. Take tapioca, peel it and cube it into small pieces. Wash them well.
    2. Add it to a pot and cover with water. salt it and bring it to boil.
    3. Simmer and cook for 15 mins till the tapioca is tender.
    4. Now grind the ingredients given for masala to a smooth paste and set aside.
    5. When the tapioca is cooked, Drain it and add it to the same pot.
    6. Add the masala and mix well. Taste to see for seasoning.
    7. Let it cook for few more mins. If you want you could add some more water.
    8. Now make seasoning, by heating oil and crackling mustard, urad dal and curry leaves.
    9. Once it is crackled, pour that over the kootu. Mix well and serve.

    Ingredients

    • 1 large Tapioca / Maravalli Kilangu around 4 cups when chopped
    • Salt to taste
    • Water to boil tapioca
    • For Grinding:
    • 1 cup Fresh Coconut grated
    • 4 Dry Red Chilli
    • 4 cloves Garlic
    • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
    • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
    • For Seasoning:
    • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
    • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
    • 1 tsp Urad dal
    • 1 sprig Curry leaves

    Add it to water and salt them
    Mix them well
    Now make the masala
    Grind the ingredients to a smooth paste
    Add it to cooked tapioca
    Mix well

      is it really 1g of this kootu is 160Kcal or it a mistake?
