    Chilli Chicken Recipe

    Even though i cook a lot for my family and for this blog. Someday i want to be lazy and indulge myself from restaurant foods. During those days we would dine outside in some of our favorite restaurants, but most of the time, i love to order some foods, cuddle up in a blanket and watch my favorite shows on TV enjoying those hot foods. 

    About Chilli Chicken Recipe

    Chilli chicken is a popular Indo-Chinese dish of chicken of Hakka Chinese heritage. In India, this may include a variety of dry chicken preparations. Though mainly boneless chicken is used in this dish, some people also use bone-in chicken too.

    One of my favourite foods to order on a take out is this chilli chicken. There is something so tasty about the restaurant style chilli chicken recipe. It is so delicious and kind of addictive, I have tried my hands on so many variety of chilli chicken recipe and finally got the best one. This is it!

    Numerous recipes exist for the dish of the same name depending on the restaurateur, including:

    • Green chilli chicken.
    • Tangrai chilli chicken.
    • Chinese chilli chicken.
    • Bengal chilli chicken.

    Chilli Chicken Ingredients

    For Frying Chicken: Chicken, All Purpose Flour,  Cornstarch, Soy Sauce

    Sauces for Chilli Chicken

    Butter, Ginger & Garlic, Onion & Green Chillies, Capsicum & Spring Onions

    • Tomato Ketchup 
    • Green Chilli Sauce 
    • Vinegar 
    • Soy Sauce 
    • Red Chilli Powder 
    • Black Pepper Powder

    How to Make Chilli Chicken

    Frying Chicken

    Start by frying some chicken. Take chicken in a bowl, add in flour, cornflour, salt, pepper, soy sauce, ginger garlic paste and water. mix well. Set aside for 10 mins. Heat some oil for deep frying, drop the chicken in and fry till golden, drain and set aside.

    Making Sauce

    Now make the sauce, heat some butter in a pan, add in ginger garlic and fry till golden. Add in onions. green chillies, salt and sugar. Toss well. capsicum goes in and mix well. Add in red chilli powder, soy sauce, green chilli sauce, vinegar, ketchup adn mix well. Add in water and cook till oil separates.

    Making chilli chicken

    fried chicken goes in and toss well. Add in pepper and spring onion. Mix well. Serve hot.

    Ingredients
      

    Chilli Chicken Dry

    • Chicken - ¾ kg boneless
    • All Purpose Flour / Maida - 1 cup
    • Cornflour / Cornstarch - ½ cup
    • Salt to taste
    • Pepper - 1 tsp
    • Soy Sauce - 2 tsp
    • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblspn
    • Water - ¼ cup
    • Oil for deep frying

    For Sauce:

    • Butter - 3 tblspn
    • Ginger - 2 tblspn finely chopped
    • Garlic - 2 tblspn finely chopped
    • Onion - 1 large sliced thinly
    • Green Chilli - 2 slit
    • Capsicum / Bell Pepper - 1 sliced
    • Tomato Ketchup - ½ cup
    • Green Chilli Sauce - 3 tblspn
    • Vinegar - 2 tsp
    • Soy Sauce - 1 tsp
    • Red Chilli Powder - 1 tblspn or to taste
    • Water - ½ cup
    • Black Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
    • Spring Onion a handful finely chopped
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar - 1 tsp

    Chilli Chicken with Gravy

    • Boneless Chicken - 500 grams
    • Salt to taste
    • Pepper - 1 tsp
    • Baking Powder - 1 tsp
    • Cornflour / Cornstarch - ½ cup
    • Oil for deep frying

    For Sauce

    • Butter - 1 tblsp
    • Ginger - 1 tblsp chopped
    • Garlic - 1 tblsp chopped
    • Onion - 1 large chopped finely
    • Green Chillies - 6 to 8 slit
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar - ½ tsp
    • Soya Sauce - 2 tsp
    • Green Chilli Sauce - ¼ cup
    • Water - 1 to 2 cups
    • Cornflour - 2 tsp
    • Spring Onion a handful chopped

    Instructions
     

    Chilli Chicken Dry

    • Start by frying some chicken. Take chicken in a bowl, add in flour, cornflour, salt, pepper, soy sauce, ginger garlic paste and water. mix well. Set aside for 10 mins.
    • Heat some oil for deep frying, drop the chicken in and fry till golden, drain and set aside.
    • Now make the sauce, heat some butter in a pan, add in ginger garlic and fry till golden.
    • Add in onions. green chillies, salt and sugar. Toss well.
    • Add in capsicum and mix well.
    • Add in red chilli powder, soy sauce, green chilli sauce, vinegar, ketchup adn mix well.
    • Add in water and cook till oil separates.
    • Add in fried chicken and toss well.
    • Add in pepper and spring onion. Mix well.
    • Serve hot.

    Chilli Chicken with Gravy

    • Take chicken in a bowl, add salt, pepper and baking powder. Mix well.
    • Add cornflour and mix well.
    • Heat oil for deep frying, drop chicken in and fry till golden brown. Drain and set aside.
    • Heat butter in a pan, add ginger, garlic and onions and saute for a min.
    • Add green chillies and mix well.
    • Add in all sauces, salt and sugar and mix well.
    • Add water and cornflour slurry and mix well.
    • Add chicken in and cook for 2 mins.
    • Add spring onions and serve.

    Version 1 : Chilli Chicken Dry

    First let's prepare the chicken part..take boneless
    chicken in a bowl

    Add in some all purpose flour / maida

    add in cornflour / cornstarch

    some salt

    and some fresh black pepper

    add in some soy sauce

    add very little water

    mix well, set this aside for 10 mins or so

    Meanwhile Heat oil for deep frying

    drop the chicken pieces in

    fry this till crispy and golden

    How to Make Chilli Chicken Sauce

    Now take your other ingredients

    Start by melting some butter in a pan

    add in lots of chopped ginger and garlic

    fry till golden

    add in sliced onions and green chillies

    add in soy sauce

    add in some vinegar

    now add in ketchup

    add in little water

    keep cooking till the oil separates

    add in the chicken pieces

    toss well

    add in lots of freshly crushed pepper

    toss well

    add in lots of chopped spring onions

    Version 2: Chilli Chicken Gravy

    1)Take boneless chicken in a bowl.

    2)Add salt, pepper and baking powder. Adding baking powder will tenderize the chicken and make it juicy.

    4)Add in Cornflour

    5)Mix well.

    6)Heat oil for deep frying, drop chicken in and fry till golden

    7)Drain and set aside.

    8)Fry all the chicken and set aside.

    9)Heat butter in a pan

    10)Add in ginger and garlic

    11)Add in onions

    12)Add in green chillies

    13)Mix well

    14)Add salt and sugar to taste

    15)Add in soya sauce

    16)Add in green chilli sauce.

    17)Add a good amount of the sauce in.

    18)Add water

    19)Bring it to a boil.

    20)Add in cornflour mixed with some water.

      Hello Aarthi,

      Made it first time. Went perfect in every way. But I did not follow your quantities at all. For example, I had cut down on cornflour to almost 1/3rd, just one heaped teaspoon of All Purpose Flour / Maida, increased chili sauce quite a bit, cut on zinger and garlic, soy sauce etc.
      Even after this, the whole family and guests perticularly were not willing to belive it was home made.
