My mum makes this chutney more that twice in a week..Because it is so simple to make..It requires only onion and nothing else..
I like to caramelize the onion and they make it into a paste..So that you can get the real sweetness of onions and it gives the chutney a nice colour..

Onion chutney is best served with hot idlis or dosa…And it makes a perfect spread for sandwiches…
So hope you try this…Off you go..
Ingrediants:
Onion- ½ kg sliced
Tamarind paste-1 tblspn
Chilli powder-1 tsp
Coriander powder/Malli podi-1 tblspn
Garlic-6 cloves
Oil-1 tblspn
Salt to taste
For Tempering:
Oil-1 tblspn
Mustard seeds/Kaduku-1 tsp
Cumin seeds/Jeerakam-1 tsp
Dry Red chilli-1
Method:
Heat oil in a kadai..Add in onions and sprinkle it with salt..
Cook till the onions gets caramelized and golden…
Add in garlic, chilli powder, coriander powder and tamarind paste and cook for 1 min..
Now let this cool a little…Put this in a blender and make into a fine puree.Pour this into a bowl..
Now make the tempering by heating oil and add in mustard, cumin and dry red chilli..
Pour this tadka over the chutney and mix well..
Serve this with dosa or idli..

Pictorial:
Take all your ingrediants
Heat oil in a kadai
add in onions
sprinkle with salt
cover and cook for 5-8 mins
untill the onions get caramelized
add in garlic
and tamarind paste
also chilli and coriander powder
mix well
take that in a blender
make into a fine puree
Tip this into a bowl
make tadka by heating oil with mustard, cumin and fry red chilli
Pour that over the chutney
Mix well
Serve
Goes well with Dosa
