Paruppu Thogayal Recipe / Dal Chutney Recipe (No Coconut)



This is one of my favourite recipe. It is like a comforting recipe. Paruppu Thogayal, Hot Rice, a tsp of Ghee, Hot Tamarind Rasam & some Papad..Delicious..This version is a no coconut version and taste really yummy. Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..

Preparation Time: 5 mins
Cooking Time : 10 mins
Serves : 4

Ingredients:

Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu - 1/2 cup
Dry Red Chillies - 2 to 3
Black Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Garlic - 1 clove
Salt to taste
Oil - 1 tsp
Water as needed

Method:

Heat oil in a kadai. Add in toor dal and roast them till golden.

Remove them to a plate and let it cool down.

In the same oil, add in dry red chillies and pepper and roast them till golden. Remove them to the same plate as well.

Now take the cooled mix in a blender, add in garlic and salt. Make it into a fine powder,

Add in water and grind them to a thick chutney.

Serve with hot rice mixed with some ghee.

Take all your ingredients


Heat oil in a kadai


Add in toor dal


Start roasting them on a low heat


they will slowly toast and change colour


now it is deep golden in colour


remove them


set aside to cool


in the remaining oil


add in dry red chillies


and few black pepper


fry them for a min


remove to the same plate to cool


once it is cooled, take it in a blender, add 
few garlic cloves as well


add in some salt


Powder them


add water


make it to a thick chutney


Serve

  1. can we do without water at end? to store for longer time as a powder?

  2. @Anonymousyes u can, add less oil or infact no oil while roasting and you can powder this whole thing and keep it. This is what we call paruppu podi
