Yay..It the end of the week. I can't believe how fast this week has gone. It was such a tiring week for me. I should do something or go somewhere this weekend..Lets see what we have in store for us..
Now moving back to the recipe. Radish was one of the most hated vegetable of mine before marriage. But after marriage I started to pick few radishes when I was visiting market. Radishes are not only cheap, it is packed with lots of minerals. Mainly it is good for people who are in diet, radishes helps in losing weight. So what I make with that, somedays I make this Radish paratha, but most of the time it will this yummy sambar. This sambar is packed with full flavour, those radishes give this sambar a unique taste and aroma..
I have a request to you folks, if you have any yummy radish recipes, please tell me. I have few radishes left in the fridge.
Channa Dal / Kadala Paruppu - 1 cup
Radish - 1 large chopped
Shallots / Sambar Onion - 6
Green Chilli - 2 slit
Oil - 3 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / kaduku - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
Asafoetida / Hing - 1/4 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi -1 tsp
Coriander powder / Malli Podi - 2 tblspn
Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
Tamarind Pulp - 2 tblspn
Salt to taste
Jaggery - to taste
Coriander Leaves / Cilantro a handful
Cook channa dal till they are mushy. Set it aside.
Heat oil in a pot. Add mustard and cumin seeds in it. Throw a pinch asafoetida in that and mix well.
Add in shallots, green chilli and radish in that oil and cook for 5 mins till the raw smell goes away.
Add in turmeric, coriander and chilli powder and mix well.
Add a splash of water and cook everything till the oil separates from this mixture. This will clearly say that the masala is cooked.
Now add more water and tamarind. Add in cooked channa dal.
Season with salt and jaggery.
Bring everything to a boil. Cover and simmer the pot for 15-20 mins so that every flavour gets combined.
Add in lots of coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
Serve this sambar with rice.

Pretend as if you saw some Oil, Cumin Seeds, Mustard Seeds, Asafoetida, Shallots, Green Chillies, Radishes, Turmeric powder, Coriander powder, Chilli powder, Tamarind, Salt, Jaggery, Cooked Channa Dal & Some Coriander Leaves in a Red Chopping Board.

|Ok here you go..You need some channa dal which is cooked|
|Add mustard and cumin in oil|
|add in hing|
|add in shallots, green chilli and radishes|
|saute them well|
|saute till they get rid of their raw smell|
|add turmeric to them|
|add in chilli and coriander powder|
|mix them well|
|add some water|
|and cook till oil separates from them|
|add some more water along with tamarind|
|Season with salt and jaggery|
|add the cooked dal|
|and mix well|
|bring it to a boil|
|cover and simmer|
|till everything is cooked|
|Add in lots of coriander leaves|
