Tomato Chutney Recipe

This is my go to chutney recipe, i make a big batch of this and keep it in fridge and use it through out the week. lil one loves it so much, this chutney taste amazing with idli, dosa..Even have it with roti or chapati..It taste wonderful..This is very easy to make, the only thing you have to keep in mind is cook this till oil separates from the mix..This what keeps the chutney for a long time..Also use good amount of oil in the chutney which preserves it  for a long time..

Preparation Time : 5 mins
Cooking Time :15 mins
Serves: 5 to 6


Oil - 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 2 tblspn
Dry Red Chillies - 4 to 5
Tomatoes - 5 large chopped
Salt to taste
Sugar - 1 tsp

For Seasoning:
Oil - 4 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves a sprig
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - a pinch


Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan, add in urad dal and chillies and saute till golden.

Now add in tomatoes, salt and sugar and mix well. Cover and simmer the pan and cook for 5 to 10 mins. Now it is cooked. Take this in a blender and puree till smooth.

Now make seasoning, heat oil in a pan, add in mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves and mix well.

Add in chutney and cook till oil separates.

Serve with dosa.

Take all your ingredients

Heat oil and add in urad dal..

add in chillies

fry till golden

add in tomatoes

add in salt and sugar

Toss well

Cover with a lid...cook till tomatoes turn mushy

Take it in a blender

Puree till smooth

Now make a seasoning..Heat oil and crackle in mustard and curry leaves

add in little asafoetida

let it sizzle

add in tomato puree

Mix well

Cook till oil separates

Now it is done
